本卦象﹕
小過,亨。利貞。可小事,不可大事。飛鳥遺之音。不宜上,宜下。大吉。
小過為亨,必也利於貞,本卦為坎卦之後象,乃飛鳥之象,除三爻四爻外,
其餘四爻皆為陰爻,而為陽為大,陰極小;
意乃小事尚可,大事則不可妄為,而陽雖屬飛鳥之象,但陰重,主將有大禍,
故不宜往上發展,宜安份守己,行不過恭,用不過儉,喪不過哀,
如此則小過亦主為吉。
初爻﹕
飛鳥以凶。
企劃有勉強之處,會受到災害。
二爻﹕
過其祖,遇其妣。不及其君,遇其臣。旡咎。
小事可。最好請代理人辦事,而不要自己獨自行事。
三爻﹕
弗過防之。從或戕之。凶。
受到惡友引誘之時。
四爻﹕
旡咎。弗過遇之。往厲必戒。勿用永貞。
多事多難,前進危險,小心之時。
五爻﹕
密雲不雨,自我西郊。公弋取彼在冗。
行事無法如心所願,重新檢討。
六爻﹕
弗遇過之。飛鳥離之。凶。是謂災眚。
由於過份自信,無法適可而止而遭災。多中傷之時。
英文﹕Hsiao Kuo / Preponderance of the Small
Preponderance of the Small. Success.
Perseverance furthers.
Small things may be done; great things should not be done.
The flying bird brings the message:
It is not well to strive upward,
It is well to remain below.
Great good fortune.
Thunder on the mountain:
The image of Preponderance of the Small.
Thus in his conduct the superior man gives preponderance to reverence.
In bereavement he gives preponderance to grief.
In his expenditures he gives preponderance to thrift.
Six at the beginning means:
The bird meets with misfortune through flying.
Six in the second place means:
She passes by her ancestor
And meets her ancestress.
He does not reach his prince
And meets the official.
No blame.
Nine in the third place means:
If one is not extremely careful,
Somebody may come up from behind and strike him.
Misfortune.
Nine in the fourth place means:
No blame. He meets him without passing by.
Going brings danger. One must be on guard.
Do not act. Be constantly persevering.
Six in the fifth place means:
Dense clouds,
No rain from our western territory.
The prince shoots and hits him who is in the cave.
Six at the top means:
He passes him by, not meeting him.
The flying bird leaves him.
Misfortune.
This means bad luck and injury.
